Delta is the worst junk made - after many years the outer retainer becomes frozen and nothing will remove it - you end up destroying the valve before it comes off. GARBAGE !!
Hello sir I thank you for this explanation!! I know its 13 years ago but just as handy today as it was then!! Hope your well!! Peace....😃
Thank you for explaining this clearly & simply. Cheers
Great video! Very simple and to the point. I also wondered how to adjust the hot water mixture, so thank you for quickly explaining that as well!
I just bought one of these a 2 inch by 2 inch for my new shower drain to do the join up where the pipes come together. Lowes $5 and something.
I knew how to do this once upon a time but forgot. This worked perfectly! Thanks 🤩

13 years later and still my hero for posting this. I have used this as my repair manual every time I have to change a moen cartridge. (4 different faucets so far with enough time in between for me to forget the process) THANK YOU!
Hello elsagonzalez5004, You're welcome! I am glad the video helped! I generally take a refresher in most of the projects I tackle other than plumbing. For some reason the old brain doesn't remember like it use to. LOL CONGRATS on the repairs! Thanks for the kind words and enjoy your day! Al
What is the methods to dry the inside wall before caulking, the issue has been over a year I’m pretty sure inside the wall is moisture?
Hello vanessasam6630, I guess that would depend on what kind of shape the wall is in. Generally if the water has been running inside the wall for a long period of time and there is tile on the wall it gets soft underneath the spout and you get into a project by having to replace the gyproc and tile. I usually go with gyproc, Schluter than tile.Hopefully in your case it isn't that bad. The only way I can think of is to use a dehumidifier and let it run for a number of days. It will take some time, but it will work. Hope this helps! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your day! Al
My sink wasnt fully clogged but getting there and this time no amount of soap flushing, vinegar or drain solvers would work . I was about to call a plumber but all i really needed was a plunger :P - seriously this thing worked amazingly well - im not sure the water flow has ever been this great. Never using chemicals again.
Hello Squig8, I am glad to hear that everything worked out for you! A little elbow grease goes a long way. I never use chemicals and one of the reasons is if I have to take the drain apart under the sink to put a snake I will be dealing with toxic chemicals which could cause some serious issues. Not at all good for the environment as well! I have seen a few people with chemical burns from drain cleaners. Congrats on the repair and enjoy your day! Al
Why not use 1/4 turn valve? These valves usually leak on me.
Hello colleenlloyd2331, The valve I installed in the video was a ball valve 1/4 turn. They work great as long as you don't have any heavy mineralized water. I use ball valves whenever possible. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your day! Al
By far the most direct and well-explained video on how to install a flange on a concrete floor. Can you tell me the manufacturer and model number of that particular flange? Many thanks!
Hello gpstoddard, You're welcome! Here is one number that I found...Aqua-Dynamic Closet Floor Flange 3 Inch Inside Fit Plastic Model # 3494-001 This is just one number. If you go to your local hardware store or big box store they should carry this flange as it is quite popular. Thanks for commenting and best of luck with the project! Al
I plunged my double kitchen sink today without putting a stopper on one side. It was interesting.
Hello frankyu6984, Lots going on with that scenario. It doesn't really add any pressure or suction on the drain itself. Placing the stopper allows the force of the plunger to work on the drain. It works on most plugged drains unless there is a large amount of grease that has gone down it. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your day! Al
Thank you!

*me spending 50$ for the cartridge in 2024
Hello diefordethklok3711, You can pick them up on amazon for as little as $21 dollars if you have prime. You could also ask at your local hardware store if they have any free cartridges. I know many of them trade the old cartridge for the new. Hope this helps! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your day! Al
My faucet doesn’t leak, but the temperature is fluctuating wildly while showering. Will replacing this part fix that too?
Hello gcolonius8270, First we will start with the type of faucet you have in your bathroom. If it is a Moen and pull the handle out to turn on the water than changing the cartridge will not make any difference. If you have a Moen faucet that you simply turn the handle for the water to flow then you have a posi-temp faucet and if this is the case then you have a problem with the cartridge. The older style Moen faucets were the pull out style and the water temperature fluctuated all over the map if someone in the house turned on water elsewhere. It sounds like it is this style. Hope this helps! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your day! Al
Thank you so much! It worked like a charm. 😊

@@TheOldkid888 yeah, 3rd replacement on the same shower valve in 5 years. They just can't handle hard water. 🤣
Where is the leak? Is it leaking at the handle? Mine is dripping at the spout, how will I fix the leak there?
Hello carold.7907, First thing is to check what type of faucet you have. The one in the video is Waltec. You will need to shut off the water and remove the handle. Once you have done that you unscrew the chrome extension as in the video so that you can remove the cartridge. CRack the cartridge open a little and this will help in the removal. You can either replace the entire cartridge which is probably the way to go or try removing the screw on the end of the cartridge and replace the washer. While the cartridge is out it would be good to check the seat inside the faucet to make sure it is not pitted. If so you will need a 5/16 Allen wrench to remove it. Place a little teflon on the threads of the seat and insert in faucet body. tighten it in and then install the cartridge. From there it is just a matter of threaded the chrome extension back on and securing the handle. P.S. the seat you need for this faucet is longer than the regular ones for sink faucets. Keep that in mind when shopping for parts. Hope this helps! Thanks for commenting and best of luck with the repair! Al
@@TheOldkid888 yes it's an old Waltec style, still sell them. I will get around to it. If I recall when I installed it there were pipes sticking out of the wall. What I would really like is to replace the plumbing behind the wall and update. Thanks for replying

I’ve never had a problem pulling the 1222 cartridge out with pliers. I have the removal tool but never had to use it.
Hello NEDERLAM, You've been lucky. All depends on water quality. Some can be a fight until the end while other slide out as if they were just installed. Thanks for commenting and enjoy week! Al
Is the tub supposed to be full of water when we do this?
Hello sweetbeep, My apologize on the late response. Not sure how I missed these. You should have a few inches of water in the tub to get proper suction. Same goes for any other fixture you are suing a plunger on. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
@@TheOldkid888 thanks for answering! I have seen comments on my channel only go to the RUclips creator studio app for some reason, and I don't see them for months or years. But yah so will stuff invariably be regurgitated and make a mess? Or can we push it down?
Hello sweetbeep, That's interesting! I will have to check into that. As bad as it seems when you pull up on the plunger it will draw that nasty material out of the drain. It's best to draw as much up as possible and use a few paper towels to remove the material. It does prevent the drain from becoming plugged farther down the line. You can push it down, but it's best if you draw as much of it into the tub as you can. Now you know how to do a bathtub; a basin works exactly the same. A double sink and you put the plug in one side and then plunge the other. A shower is simply straightforward as you only need to use the plunger directly on it. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al
@@TheOldkid888 before you commented to me, I began the process and used a hook made from copper wire and bent by a home Depot worker and a blade to cut the hairs off the crossbars. I pulled up most of the gob. Need to do some more. I'm thinking a needle nosed pliars and long scissors might work the best! What do you think?
Wait so we are trying to suction stuff up? We can try to push it down?
I have the pipe sticking out of the concret in my basement like at 1:15 in the video. I need the flange that goes inside as to not have to hammer the concrete out. What is the part numer or dimensions for that? I've been trying to find it at home depot etc. My pipe seems to be tight 3" ID
Hello zooedca, You would be looking for an inside fit toilet flange. Home Depot sells it and I believe this is the correct model number. ( 3494-001) Be sure when you glue it in that your t-bolts are going to be equal distant from the wall as the top of the flange does not turn or spin like other flanges and to cut the abs as close as possible to the concrete. Slightly below works even better. You can do this with a jigsaw or reciprocating saw using it on an angle. Stuff a rag in the pipe below the concrete to prevent any pieces from going into the drain. This is crucial as the flange itself is quite thick and if it isn't laying flat on the floor perfectly your toilet will not sit flat on the floor especially if you are only using a thin material for flooring. If you are using tile instead of linoleum you will have some wiggle room. I have always called this a fitting floor flange only it fits inside the pipe rather than into a fitting. Hope this helps! Thanks for commenting and best of luck with the project! Al

Hello andyjordan4695, Thanks for the kind words! I tried to cover all the basis. This technique has worked for me for the past 45 years with no issues. My bathroom faucet is a Moen model CA84502 -- no longer made -- and looks similar to yours. I called the terrific Moen support line and they made sure I was getting the right cartridge for my leaky 14-year-old faucet. They shipped it to me for free, and of course the part was free too. (Part# 1225 -- but no "B" at the end.) It was a bit more of a struggle to pull out the old cartridge -- and Moen makes a tool to do that -- but I managed to remove it without needing the special puller tool. The other difference I noted is that there's a small metal washer around the top of the stem of the old cartridge -- that I replaced onto the new one. Outside of that minor detail, your video was extremely helpful and encouraging.
If you can find a 3" test plug with a rubber collar that is the same circumference as the plastic cap (approximately 3.5 ") on top that fits the disposal basket that leaves you with both hands on the drain side. place the 3" plug in the disposal basket and sneak your fingers under the plastic test plug top and push the rubber collar into the disposal basket and then tighten up the test plug. If your test plug does not have that collar on top it will not work. This should stay in place on the disposal side hands free and allow you to plunge the drain side without having to hold the disposal stopper in with your other hand. If it is greasy sometimes the test plug will slip out so you have to kind of clean the inside of the basket under water with a brillo pad or something so the test plug will hold. You could just have some one hold the disposal stopper in but in the service industry its just you.
Are the zone valves installed upside down , does it matter ? Thanks please help
Thanks for the little tool info! I have the 1225 and replaced it before covid but it has leaked (hot side) ever since so we keep the hot water off until we use the faucet. I have another cartridge and this week I am going to pull it again and replace it hoping the "barrel" is not scratched and I can solve my problem.
